Caving in Derbyshire & the Peak District
For many of our caving adventures you really don’t need to have any previous experience and we’ve enjoyed seeing families with children as young as 5 explore the caves under the Peak District.
A novice/family Caving Trip is perfect for anyone who has never been caving before. It’s ideal for families, individuals or small groups wanting to discover the adventures that caving allows. Our over riding aim is to give you a friendly introduction to the activity with the opportunity to challenge yourself to a level you’re comfortable with. All our trips are groups are small in number and primarily bespoke, so it is very much a personal service, you’ll be part of group with a maximum ratio of 1:8, but mostly likely it’ll just be yourselves as a small group.
Some caving can be quite physical if you wish to push yourself, but normal fitness levels are fine and we provide all PPE for you. This includes footwear, oversuits, undercuts, knee pads helmet, lamps and safety belt/harness. Our equipment stores carry a full range of sizes from XXXS to XXXXXL and children’s size 4 wellies to adult size 14, and the quality is the same across the full range.
Your caving session of 2-3 hours will involve a trip into a local cave or mine system. Depending on which cave we visit on the day, cavers may come across short scrambles, river passages, cave mud and even the option to try some squeeze challenges or longer, more physical sections of caving passage.
So forget the image of scary, tight and dangerous caving that you see in the films and press and discover for yourself what it is really like down there. You’ll be amazed at what lies beneath the Peak District.
