A visit to the Great Outdoors may be the safest post-lockdown activity in Britain according to Sage scientists after evidence once again shows the risk of outdoor transmission of Covid-19 continues to be extremely low.
“There’s been very, very little evidence that any transmission outdoors is happening in the UK,” Mark Woolhouse, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh, told the Science and Technology Committee. While trips abroad may have to wait, UK outdoor trips could be given the green light, Prof Woolhouse, of the Sage sub-group said. “There’s never been a Covid-19 outbreak linked to (the outdoors)… anywhere in the world to the best of my knowledge.”
